Maxwell and Mary J. Blige have teamed up for a special double-bill show at this year's BluesFest in partnership with American Express®, as part of their co-headlining King and Queen of Hearts World Tour.
Maxwell's ‘blackSUMMERS’night’ was released on July 1 (Columbia Records), and is being talked of as one of the most acclaimed albums of 2016. This is the two-time Grammy winner's first European tour in seven years.
Maxwell says, “Mary is the epitome of soul. She embodies all that is woman and speaks for the everyday struggle and triumphs of all women. I can’t wait to get on the road with her."
Mary J. Blige has sold over 50 million albums worldwide while winning nine Grammy Awards and five American Music Awards. Her highly anticipated new album will be out this Fall.
Ms Blige says, "Maxwell's music is amazingly soulful and calm with a colourful tone that speaks to the hearts of women. His music makes them feel loved and I'm excited to get on the road with him."
The two join an impressive line-up for BluesFest 2016, which already boasts the likes of two more spectacular double-bills featuring blues luminary Walter Trout and UK blues-rock outfit The Temperance Movement, and UK guitar legend Jeff Beck alongside musical visionary Van Morrison. The festival will also present the first London show in six years from Paul Rodgers’ rock supergroup Bad Company featuring special guest US guitarist and Bon Jovi collaborator Richie Sambora and a special one-off Bill Wyman 80th birthday concert featuring Bill Wyman himself plus special guests Bob Geldof, Mark Knopfler, Imelda May and Mick Hucknall.
Taking place from October 28th – 30th, the festival will this year run in association with American Express and will once again utilise all areas of The O2 complex including the 20000-capacity Arena, indigo at The O2 and Brooklyn Bowl to present what is fast becoming one of the most popular blues, soul and roots festivals in the world.
